Hydrogenated Liquid Natural Rubber for Compatibility Enhancement of Poly(lactic acid) and Natural Rubber Blends

Non-catalytic hydrogenation of liquid natural rubber (LNR) via thermal decomposition 2,4,6-trimethylbenzenesulfonylhydrazide (MSH) is reported in this study. Parameter studies the reaction were performed by utilizing combination response surface methodology and central composite rotatable design (RSM/CCRD). The effects each variable interaction between two variables (i.e. MSH:LNR weight ratio time) studied. Statistical analysis showed that time had significantly affected percentage. A reduced quadratic model equation with coefficient determination (R2) value 0.9875 was developed. optimized condition as predicted software compared experimental data, which deviated only 0.67, hence indicating reliable able to predict percentage accurately. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies used characterize microstructure LNR hydrogenated (HLNR). HLNR then compatibilizer improve miscibility poly(lactic acid)/natural blends. With an addition 4% HLNR, tensile strength impact blends slightly improved.
